Jaguar has announced an update for its flagship XJ luxury sedan, and it promises a refreshed exterior design, loads more technology, and a slew of different model iterations to choose from.
First launched in the US in 2011, the XJ has grown a bit stale over the years, but Jag wants to shake the old-man connotations by utilizing aluminum construction and the latest and greatest gadgetry. What’s more, the exterior espouses a timeless style with a hint of modern aggression, making for an enticing package.
The new XJ is also available in no less than eight different models, including several long-wheelbase variants that offer even more luxury than the standard car.
The questions is: can the new XJ outgun the top dogs hailing from Germany? Mercedes, BMW, and Audi are all in the hunt for high-dollar, luxury four-door sales, and each is bringing its own brand of technology and performance to the table.
Updated 09/05/2015: Jaguar revealed prices for the new XJ luxury sedan, which will be put on sale in the spring of 2016. Prices will range from $74,400 for the XJ R-Sport version and up to $121,000 for the XJR LWB version.
Among the many premieres hitting the spotlights at the2015 edition of the Detroit Auto Show, most of them having wheels and some type of propulsion, the biggest news coming from the Jaguar booth was not in the shape of a current model, but a future one: the carmaker’s first-ever SUV. Set to sport the somewhat odd and not necessarily appropriate "F-Pace" moniker, the new model should complement the Jaguar lineup starting with 2016, despite the fact that some pre-production mules have been caught testing as far as early 2014.
For those unsure about the "Pace" part of the model’s name, they should be reminded that one of William Lyons’ maxims about the car brand he co-founded said that all Jaguar model had to have "grace, pace and space," something which the upcoming SUV should also adhere to. As expected, the SUV’s styling will be inspired by the C-X17 line of concept cars which were presented back in 2013. "We received such an overwhelmingly positive response to the 2014 C-X17 concept car last year that we just had to make it a reality. The Jaguar F-PACE, inspired by the F-TYPE, represents a perfectly judged balance of style, performance and practicality. It offers a unique combination of Jaguar sports car inspired exterior design, fused beautifully with a thoroughly practical and spacious luxury interior. The F-PACE is our family sports car." said Ian Callum, Jaguar’s Director of Design.
As far as the F-Pace’s architecture is concerned, it seems that the aluminum-intensive platform found in the recently unveiled Jaguar XE will be thoroughly reworked to accommodate an SUV body. In other words, the new Ingenium family of engines will largely be responsible of moving the F-Pace as well, with the car also expected to receive an R version to battle the upcoming BMW X3 M and Mercedes-AMG GLC 63, two yet-to-be-revealed variants of the car’s biggest rivals.
Updated 09/04/2015: Jaguar dropped the first official image of the new F-Pace SUV and confirmed the official debut will be made on September 15 at 4:30 A.M. EDT at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. Sales for the U.S. market will begin in the spring of 2016.
After months of rumors, teasing and other details surrounding the all-new Jaguar XE, it is finally official, as Jaguar unveiled it on September 8, 2014. Marketed as the British answer to the BMW 3 Series , the XE looks as if it will take on the 3 Series lineup from top to bottom. At the official reveal, Jaguar turned much of its attention to the XE S, which is obviously the answer to the BMW 335i and Mercedes C400, but there is also a collection of smaller diesel and gasoline engines for the lower level trims. The only model that Jaguar failed to talk about was the answer to the C63 AMG and M3, which should wear either an "R," "R-S," or an "SVR" badge.
This new car is the first that is built using Jaguar’s all-new aluminum architecture that was previewed with theC-X17 Concept SUV . Jaguar has been building aluminum-intensive cars for over a decade now, but this move further reduces the weight of Jaguar’s many offerings.
The new XE, which will likely be the backbone of Jaguar’s sales once it hits showrooms in 2015 — U.S. availability is 2016 — is the first big step the company is taking toward a lineup that will include lighter and fuel-efficient, yet powerful and sporty vehicles. Updated 09/03/2015: Jaguar announced prices for the new XE which will arrive in North American showrooms spring 2016 as a 2017 model year. The model will be offered in three trim levels: 25t, 20d and 35t with prices starting from $34,900.
The XF first broke cover at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show , eventually making its way to dealerships in March 2008. It was quite successful, becoming Jag’s most-awarded car. Now, however, nearly eight years later, the British automaker felt as though the sporty luxury sedan is overdue for a change, and as such, the marque recently introduced the 2016 model year at the 2015 New York Auto Show .
Although its design is heavily based on the previous model, the new XF is actually a much more comprehensive update. The car is significantly lighter now, which comes thanks to Jag’s new commitment to constructing the entirety of its lineup from aluminum bodies, and a lot more quicker than its predecessor. And although some of the new drivetrain Jaguar launched in 2014 might not make it Stateside in the midsize sedan, the new XF has plenty of new features to brag out. Keep reading for the full details.
Updated 09/03/2015: Jaguar revealed prices for the new 2016 XF, a model that adds more standard value, but at the same time is 9 percent cheaper than the model it replaces. The model will be put on sale at a starting price of $51,900.
Back in April 2012, Jaguar officially confirmed that the F-Type sports car wold be coming, except they only confirmed it in a coupe version and a roadster version. Now, recent spy shots have revealed that an R version is also under development. Come on, anyone knows that all Jaguars come with their own R version, so this little development shouldn’t have taken anybody off-guard.
The future Jaguar F-Type R will be powered by the usual supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine used in almost all the other R models, but detuned to around 450 HP, which is still pretty impressive for such a tiny sports car.
Compared to the standard F-Type, the R version will get a set of quad exhausts, more prominent front and rear bumpers, a new set of wheels, and a sportier interior.
It is believed that the R version will be launched at the same time as the standard version, so expect to see the new F-Type in all its glory later in September 2012.
Now all we need to complete the lineup is for the Jaguar F-Type RS to get picked.
Two years ago, British manufacturer Eagle introduced the world to their rendition of the Jaguar E-type with the E-Type Speedster at the Salon Prive. The car was light, fast, and it gave the driver hassle-free driving when compared to the E-Types of yesteryear. Now the company has reworked their modern day classic with an even lighter version called the Eagle E-Type Lightweight Speedster, scheduled to make its debut at the Salon Prive at Syon House in west London on June 22-24, 2011
Eagle is well-known for their dedication to the development of Jaguar’s E-Types and have been restoring and selling them since 1982. Their passion for the E-Type is what lead them to create a model that throws back to the design of Jaguar’s Lightweight E-Type race cars built in 1963, but with a modern twist and a more powerful engine.
The Eagle Lightweight Speedster only weighs 2,200 lbs and that weight is powered by a 4.7 liter, aluminum in line 6 cylinder engine that delivers an impressive 310 HP with a peak torque of 340 lb-ft.
Exterior
The E-Type Speedster measures 1,000mm in height, 4,260mm in lengh, and 1,740mm on width. It features a custom-built windscreen lowered and raked back with shaped wind-down side glass and hidden ‘A’ posts to create a smoother shape. Deeper sills and a lowered floor were also put in and enhance the smooth and sleek outline of the E-type, thus making it look like a bright and shiny bullet. The colored body panels extend across the door tops and around the scallops, and the wheel track has been increased and the wheel arch width extended to complement the overall shape. The exterior is then completed by completely custom-designed aluminum rimmed wheels.
Interior
What’s interesting about the interior of the Eagle E-type is the way the rear deck continues down the center of the car, turning into the center console seamlessly. Everything else in the vehicle features classic styling and luxury, down to the steering wheel which is a Speedster 3-eared wheel spinner. The steering wheel even comes with a a custom designed enamel horn push and flush fitting nose and tail badging.
When talking about their project, Eagle says: "From the start we decided that the body and fittings should be seamless, including the specially designed glass and windscreen. The purity of the lines and flowing bodyshell is testament to this."
Engine
Under the hood, Eagle has placed a 4.7 liter, aluminum in line 6 cylinder engine that delivers an impressive 310 HP and a peak torque of 340 lb-ft. The engine will be mated to an aluminum 5 speed gearbox, an aluminum Power Lock differential, independent wishbones, 6 high tech adjustable dampers, anti roll bars, and rear radius arms. The car will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in under 5 seconds - which matches the modern Jaguar XKR - and will hit a top speed of more than 160 mph.
A very impressive feature of the new E-Type Speedster is the fact that it delivers the same 7.09 power-to-weight ratio as a Porsche 911 Turbo.
The Eagle E-Type comes to a halt with the use of 315mm/280mm drilled and vented discs and aluminum 4 pot calipers. Gripping the pavement are 225/55 x 16 tires for the front and 245/55 x 16 tires for the rear.
Prices
Eagle has not announced prices for the E-Type Speedster just yet, but it seems as if this car is a priceless tribute to a legendary vehicle.
Competition
While the Eagle E-Type Lightweight Speedster was built with no competitors in mind, its performance numbers will help it stand next to any sports car on the market. In fact, in terms of of bhp per ton, it’s more than the equal of any modern Jaguar. It delivers the same power-to-weight ratio as a Porsche 911 Turbo, while the 0 to 60 mph sprint time is similar to a modern Jaguar XK.
It seems as if Eagle came up with a fantastic coupling: classic styling with modern day power.
This is the one and only factory low-drag lightweight Jaguar E-Type and is a vehicle that should have been laid to rest a long time ago. In fact, the Jaguar was thought to be dead until Peter Neumark of Classic Motors Cars breathed new life into the last racing car ever built at Jaguar’s factory.
Only twelve lightweight E-types were built by Jaguar’s competition department back in 1963, but only one returned to undergo preparatory work for the LeMans race later that year. Malcolm Sayer designed the vehicle to have a special low drag body that would be coupled to a highly modified engine. This combination was set to take LeMans by storm and lead driver, Peter Lindner, to victory. Unfortunately, while on the Montlhery circuit, something went terribly wrong causing a crash that would end up killing Peter Lindner and destroying the Jaguar E-type. Sayer himself said that the vehicle could not be repaired and that opinion was echoed in the 1970s when a second survey confirmed the vehicle’s fate.
Fast forward to 2007 when Peter Neumark entered the scene. Determined to revive the crumpled E-Type, Neumark set out to make history with one of the most complex restorations to ever take place in the world.
The Build
The all aluminum body of the Low Drag E-Type was mangled beyond recognition during that horrific day on the track, but Neumark was determined to make it work again. With Andrew Turvey heading the project, the team went to work dismantling all of the body panels from the monocoque chassis. Each body panel was then flattened, repaired, and reformed to its original shape. We would compare this type of repair work to bringing back a crumpled piece of paper to its original shape. Once the body panels were placed onto the vehicle, the monococque was then spot-welded and riveted together. Over £30,000 ($49,500 at the current rates) worth of welding equipment had to be installed in Neumark’s shop in order to complete the restoration.
All in all, the team used 90% of the car’s original parts and took 5,000 hours to restore the body alone, leaving 2,000 man hours to finish the build. Project leader, Turvey, said the task could have never been complete without the help of Lindner’s family who provided photographs and film footage from the day of the crash, as well as insight from Peter Wilson who was a technician at Jaguar’s competition department and worked on the E-Type at that time.
Engine
When the Jaguar Lightweight E-Type came out in 1963, it was powered by a fuel-injected 3.8L Jaguar engine that produced 300 HP. When transformed into lightweight coupes, the Jaguar was then fitted with more powerful engines delivering 340+ HP. The engine used for the Low Drag Coupe was a small capacity "highly boosted" petrol engine.
Where Does It Go From Here?

Since its complete restoration, the Jaguar Lindner Nocker Low Drag E-Type has been invited to some of the most famous car events around the world, but first the car was unveiled in Bridgnorth in the presence of Jaguar E-Type test driver Norman Dewis, Lindner’s nephew Tomas Fritz, and Patrick Lansard, the man who discovered the abandoned and crashed vehicle in a garage in 1974. From a mangled piece of aluminum, a £5 million ($8.2 million at the current rates) Jaguar E-Type was born, just in time for the E-Type’s 50th Anniversary. Too cool.
Peter Neumark, the Chairman of Classic Motor Cars said: "This is one of the most major restorations ever to take place in the World. Many said that it could not be done but we have proved them wrong."
Jaguar unveiled the C-X75 Concept car at the 2010 Paris Auto Show to show everyone that they had plenty of potential left to uncover as an automaker. And, although the concept was a huge success and served its purpose, Jaguar still needed to prove that this potential prevailed in more than just a design study. Now, under Tata’s influential arm, Jaguar is looking into building "a more accessible variation of the C-X75 concept" and will do so sometime between 2013 and 2015 with 250 units of the crazy cool production version of the C-X75. The production model will be sport-based and will be built in conjunction with the Williams F1 team.
“We were always determined that the Jaguar C-X75 would be as striking on the road as it was in concept form,” said Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar Cars. “This will be the finest looking and most innovative Jaguar ever produced. Even in the world of supercars, we can still produce the most beautiful.”
The production C-X75 will still carry the four electric motors attached one to each axle, but the oh-so-cool jets mounted on the concept will be taken out and replaced with a supercharged 1.6L gasoline engine. Yes, we know the jets would have been awesome to see in a production model, but the specs for the C-X75 won’t disappoint anyone. Plus, we may still get to see the jets in a later production version since Tata owns a big stake in Bladon Jets. For now, we’ll stick to the phenomenal elements of the future C-X75.
Exterior and Interior
Most, if not all, of the exterior elements found on the concept C-X75 will remain the same, but Jaguar has enlisted the help of the Williams F1 team for many components of the production model. Using their vast knowledge, the F1 team will be helping Jaguar with the development of the carbon fiber and other composite materials used for the chassis and body and an improvement in aerodynamics of the 2,976 lb sports car.
Jaguar believes that a direct technology transfer between elite motorsport and road-going production cars is essential for the C-X75 to be as successful as it should be and the lightweight, rigidly strong structure of the production model attests to that.
Engine
The hybrid super car will be able to get 99g/km of C02 which should make the environmentalists in the world a tad less angry at the speed hungry car enthusiasts.
Sorry, folks, but the jet engines that came with the C-X75 Concept will be shown the door in the production model, in favor of a supercharged 1.6L gasoline engine designed in conjunction with the Williams F1 team. This engine will share the spotlight with the same four electric motors (one for each axle) seen in the concept. The Williams F1 team will also help with the development of the vehicle’s hybrid propulsion system. The hybrid super car will be able to get 99g/km of C02 which should make the environmentalists in the world a tad less angry at the speed hungry car enthusiasts.
“The engine’s compact size allows it to be mounted low in the car for optimum weight distribution and to retain the concept’s stunning silhouette. This will make the Jaguar C-X75 a bona fide hybrid supercar capable of silent electric running with an extensive EV range in excess of 50km,” explained Bob Joyce, Group Engineering Director, Jaguar Land Rover.
Exact horsepower has not been revealed as of yet, but expect the vehicle to get at or over 800hp. The best part of this super car is the performance specifications that are linked to it. The C-X75 will be making the 0-60 mph sprint in less than 3.0 seconds and will get to 100 mph in under six seconds. Top speed will sit nicely at 200 mph.
Pricing
The Jaguar C-X75 should arrive sometime between 2013 and 2015. Only 250 units will be built and each will be priced between 700,000 and 900,000 Euros, or about $1 million and $1.3 million at the current rates.
Competition
Our hearts skipped a beat with the official confirmation of the C-X75, but Porsche may not be too thrilled at the thought of a strong competitor for their 918 Spyder hitting the market shortly after its release. The Porsche 918 Spyder Concept was powered by a 500 HP V8, along with a pair of electric motors with 109 horsepower each, but the production version is said to be getting a power boost. This boost will be necessary if it hopes to compete with the C-X75’s minimum output of 800 HP.
Porsche can rest easy with pricing at this point because their production model is said to begin at $845,000, but locating a Porsche dealer that is actually approved to carry the 918 Spyder may be a difficult task. The 918 Spyder will be built only when a customer has purchased one and the task of a dealership getting approved may prove rather tedious. Let’s see how Jaguar handles production of their expensive super car.
“Never before has the company launched such an ambitious, world-beating vehicle program,” said Carl-Peter Forster, CEO Tata Motors. “This is the Jaguar of the future. The opportunity for innovation like this in the UK is part of the reason Tata Motors invested in Jaguar, and it’s fantastic that products like the C-X75 can become reality.”
The 2011 New York Auto Show provided the perfect setting for Jaguar’s release of the facelift version of the XF sedan, but Jaguar seemed to already be back at work even before that reveal. New rumors are circulating that suggest the company is planning to build a new plant in the UK for the construction of a brand-new six-cylinder engine that will be used in the XF, and possibly in the XJ as well. This new engine will even be offered on the US market.
So far, the Jaguar XF is offered with a 5.0 liter V8 engine in the U.S. market, while the European market can also take advantage of a 2.2 liter diesel four-engine, a 3.0 liter diesel six-cylinder, and a 3.0 liter V6. The new engine will replace the current V6 and may be able to deliver around 300 Hp, up from the current 240 HP, with the use of an eight-speed automatic. This seems to be the final step before jumping on the hybrid wagon with everyone else. Gas prices aren’t slowing down on their consistent northward climb, so a more efficient engine is definitely a move on the right direction.
The new V6 should appear in the XF or XJ sometime in early 2013 or 2014.
Jaguar celebrated 75 years of history with the unveiling of the C-X75 concept at the Paris Auto Show. Besides being a range-extended electric two-seated supercar, the C-X75 previews the company’s future design language, and we are really hoping that it is a preview version of the Jaguar’s long rumored supercar.
"The aim was to produce not only the most innovative but also one of the most beautiful Jaguars ever; one which hints at an exciting evolution of the marque’s award-winning design language while paying homage to some of its most admired cars of years gone by."
The new car tips the scales at around 2,970-pounds and is able to hit 62 miles per hour in just 3.4 seconds. That seems awfully fast for a vehicle with only two 96-horsepower micro gas turbines that force fuel into a plug-in li-ion battery back. Once all that is said on done, there are four electric motors, one for each wheel, that together deliver an outstanding 580kW (778bhp) and 1600Nm (1180lb ft) of torque. Stomp the pedal to the floor and you can hit 205 miles per hour.
The C-X75 can travel up to 68 miles on its battery pack alone, but once the turbines kick in the car can continue traveling for 560 miles. Chevrolet Volt, eat your heart out.

Jaguar is celebrating the 50th anniversary of one of its most iconic models, the E-Type, this year. So to commemorate this occasion, the British automaker has released a new Spain-exclusive, limited-run Jaguar XK “Spring Edition”, complete with a myriad of aesthetic upgrades on both the exterior and interior of the car.
While we completely dig all the styling improvements that were made for the Spring Edition XK, we’re a little bothered because the car is only being sold in Spain, which means that unless we can have one imported to the US, then we’re going to have trouble getting this unique Jaguar XK model.
Having said that, the Jaguar XK is still one fine piece of machinery, regardless if it comes with special trims or not. We admit to having once lost some affinity for the Big Car in the past, but with their slew of newer and more recent models, including the XK Coupe and Convertible, our approval rating for this British automaker is steadily rising back to its former stature as one of Europe’s finest.
Jaguar brought out the XF back in 2008 as a replacement model for the old S-Type in 2008. Three years later and it’s time for the luxury sedan to get a little refreshing in the form of a facelift. The revised XF model will make its debut next month at the New York Auto Show and will be followed by diesel and station wagon versions at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
The facelift XF will come with revised front and rear end styling inspired by the XJ sedan. It will also get new engines, including a diesel. The new Ford/PSA-developed 2,200 cc engine is the same one that will be used for the Range Rover Evoque and will deliver a total of 187 HP. The engine will come with a ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox that will send the power to the rear wheels. And since it is equipped with start-stop technology, the new engine will emit less than 130 g/km of CO2.
Jaguar will be in attendance at the New York Auto Show with the facelift version of their XF luxury sedan. The company is headed into 2012 with an addition of a diesel version to the XF engine lineup, which will even be available on the US market.
The new 2.2-liter diesel unit will deliver a total of 190 HP and 332 lbs ft of torque, while returning 52.3 mpg on the combined cycle and only 149 g/km of CO2. It will feature a water-cooled turbocharger with low-friction pistons, new injectors, and a new crankshaft. The new configuration allowed Jaguar engineers to add a new oil pan and new electronic systems which affect the crankshaft to allow the new intelligent Stop-Start system to operate more efficiently. The new engine will be mated to an advanced eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox, with the seventh and eight ratios effectively acting as overdrive gears.
With this type of setup, the diesel XF will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 8.5 seconds and will hit a maximum speed of 140 mph.
After what seemed to be a flop of an auto show in 2009, the AutoRai is said to come back this year chock full of automakers ready to show off the best of their work. One luxury automaker making its presence known will be Jaguar with two special editions designed by Jaguar’s chief designer, Ian Callum. The two models are called the XF and XJ Designer Editions and will be limited to only 20 units each.
The XF Designer Edition is based on the 3.0 liter V6 version and will feature Bi-Xenon headlights, 19 inch alloy wheels in Artura Stratus Grey metallic paint or Ultimate Black, a heated leather steering wheel, standard sports seats, and a heated windshield.
The XJ Designer Edition is based on the same 3.0 liter V6 version and will be distinguished by a leather headliner, a Bowers & Wilkins 1200W audio system, a TV tuner, and a Dual View display on the Touch HD Screen.
Both models have been painted in Stratus Grey London and combined with tan leather upholstery and a Piano Black dash finish. Sales will begin in May 2011 with the XF Designer getting a price tag of € 77,790 ($110,000 at the current exchange rates), while the XJ Designer will sell for € 121,290 ($171,000 at the current exchange rates).
It seems that automakers learned their lessons and turned their attention from large SUVs to smaller crossovers. Take Land Rover from example. Before the fuel crisis and the new emission regulations you have never expected to see a small model like Evoque in their line-up. But the world asked for it, and they brought it. And it was a wise decision: everyone was impressed.
Taken all this under consideration, Jaguar and Land Rover owner, Tata, decided to give it another try: a more luxurious version sold under Jaguar logo.
Of course this is not the first time you hear about a possible Jaguar crossover, but this time it was almost confirmed by Jaguar Land Rover spokesman Stuart Schorr who said that the future line-up will include "expansion of our portfolio from the current eight models over the next five years, including at least two new models, as well as a number of new body styles and a broader range of engines and technologies."
It seems that Jaguar is bringing its own little treat to the 2011 Geneva Motor Show in the form of a special edition XF-R. Various internet sources are reporting that the new edition will be called the S-C Exclusive Package, but not many details are accompanying the title. The only thing we have so far is this first image placed on the official Geneva Motor Show website. We’re expecting to see a few exterior and interior updates when the S-C Exclusive Package is unveiled at the show, but we don’t think Jaguar will touch the 5.0 Liter supercharged V8 engine underneath the hood. Jaguar lovers will have to make do with the 510 HP found in the current model.
Speaking of the current model, we think it’s a bit strange that Jaguar has decided to offer a new special edition XF-R when the company is already testing a facelift version. This leads us to believe that the S-C Exclusive Package will be the current XF-R’s final hoorah before the new model settles in.
Jaguar first unveiled the XK (or XK8) and XKR models in 1996 as successors for the old XJS models. Ten successful years after that, the second generation was presented at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show, with both versions getting facelifts a few years later in 2009. Then and now, the XK and the XKR are two of the most successful Jaguars on the market.
The XKR really deserves the logo of the wild cat. With a 510 HP V8 engine under the hood, it can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds. You might say that the XKR is slower than its competitors, but let’s not forget that the XKR is about $20K less than the cheapest competitor and $30K less than the Porsche Turbo.
It wasn’t that long ago when, in the middle of their brand reinvention, Jaguar released the refreshed XKR sports car at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. A year after the new XKR made its debut to the public, Jaguar is headed back to Geneva with another XKR model. Only this time, it’s the hot-as-a-scorching-summer’s-day XKR-S.
The new XKR-S features exclusive new paint colors that reflect Jaguar’s racing heritage. As with competition Jaguar cars of the past, the exterior of the XKR-S adheres to the principle of form following function.
