At the 2015 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este , BMW unveiled the 2015 BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage , a concept car paying tribute to the 1972 BMW 3.0 CLS , also known as the "Batmobile." Three months have passed since then, and Munich unveiled a new concept vehicle on U.S. soil, this time around at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance . The study in question is dubbed the 3.0 CSL Hommage R, and it’s essentially the racing version of the previous concept.

The new coupe honors the racing success of the 3.0 CSL race car and also marks BMW’s 40th anniversary in North America. In this regard, the Hommage R is similar to the 2015 BMW Z4 GTLM race car the Germans introduced ahead of the 2015 12 Hours of Sebring . Both feature the blue, purple, and red livery of the original 3.0 CSL racer, as well as the same number 25 BMW of North America used when it won the 12 Hours of Sebring for the first time in 1975.

"All the details from the BMW 3.0 CSL are present in the Hommage model. And they are all there to be discovered in their original form. It’s a bow to the 1975 car," said Karim Habib, head of design at BMW.

Though the livery and the slightly revised aerodynamics are the only features that help the Hommage R stand out in terms of design, the racing concept received some cool features on the inside as well, including a race helmet visor that acts as a head-up display. BMW ’s supercar, the M1 , was sold between 1978 to 1981 as the only mid-engined BMW to be mass produced. But you’d expect more from a maker like BMW, right? And with all the competition on the market, BMW had to do something about it, so they decided to put the Vision Efficient Dynamics Concept unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show into production.

There is one distinct change for the Vision Efficient Dynamics Concept as it heads into production, as BMW changed its name to the i8. Along with the recently announced i3, the i8 shows the other end of the spectrum that the German automaker can reach with itshybrid drivetrains. The production i8 will, surprisingly, carry the concept’s in-line three-cylinder engine combined with an electric motor to drive the front wheels.

As of now, there is only one i8 model set for production, but we have a sneaking suspicion that there may be an M or M Sport model in coming years.

Though we have yet to see the new 2016 BMW M2 Coupe in the metal, we know the performance compact is due to be revealed in October, 2015. We also know it will be an awesome coupe that will basically mark the return of the iconic 2012 BMW 1 Series M Coupe . All told, there are plenty of things to get excited about with the upcoming M2 Coupe. However, if we are to believe a new rumor that just surfaced the Interwebz, the M2 won’t be the most hardcore incarnation of the 2 Series .

According to BMW insider Scott26 from Bimmerpost, BMW is planning an even lighter and more track-focused version of the M2. There’s no word as to when this hardcore M2 will arrive, but it appears it will wear a CSL badge. The CSL moniker dates back to the BMW E9. Built between 1968 and 1975 and considered the predecessor of the 6 Series, the E9, also known as the New Six CS, spawned the 1975 BMW 3.0 CSL , a homologation special built to make the coupe eligible for racing in the European Touring Car Championship. The CSL arrived in 1972 and it is now regarded as one of the most collectible Bimmers in history.

The name returned in 2004, when BMW built a limited-edition model based on the E46 M3, called the 2004 BMW M3 CSL . It employed many weight-saving technologies and an upgraded engine and chassis.

2012 BMW 1 Series M RS by Alpha-N Performance

The BMW 1-Series M Coupe may be the baby brother in the BMW M family, but that doesn’t mean that it’s a pushover.

On the contrary, the 1M has become quite a fan favorite, proving that you don’t need to spend more than you can in order to enjoy the thrills of owning a sports car. With 340 horsepower on tap, the 1M can definitely hold its own against some of its contemporaries.

But even if its got enough ponies to make us all swoon, there’s always a way to get more out of it. That’s where Alpha-N Performance comes into the picture.

The German tuning firm recently showed us what they can do to a BMW 335i when they released a program for the car a few weeks ago. Now, it’s the 1M Coupe’s turn.

Calling it the 1M RS, Alpha-N Performance fitted the little BMW sports coupe with a comprehensive aero kit that features a wide range of components, including a ventilated carbon hood, front fascia add-on carbon lower spoilers, carbon roof, carbon luggage lid spoiler, and a carbon rear fascia diffuser. Likewise, there’s also a new set of 19" OZ Superforgiata rims wrapped in Michelin tires and a MAC high-performance braking system added into the program.

On top of all of that, Alpha-N also gave the 1M Coupe a performance upgrade consisting of a new air intake system, a new exhaust, and a reprogramed ECU unit. The result is an increased output of 410 horsepower, up by 70 ponies from the standard model’s 340-horsepower capabilities.

2012 BMW Z4 White Wold by Rowen Japan

While BMW is currently designing the next generation Z4, Japanese tuner Rowen gave updating thecurrent generation a try. We don’t necessarily think it needs updating, but to each his own.

The updates for the BMW Z4 began with the exterior where the base element was carbon fiber. The kit consists of a new front bumper spoiler, side steps, a side carbon under flap, rear bumper spoiler, and wing all made of carbon fiber. A new set of wheels complete the look, while the rear of the vehicle gets a new titanium high performance exhaust system that weighs 28 lbs less than the standard exhaust. However, Rowen has yet to reveal if this new exhaust system will translate into any changes under the hood, but it is very possible.

On top of those changes, the package also includes a new LED reflector and a LED Z4 emblem to make it a bit more eye-catching.

2012 BMW X6 Trophy Truck by All German Motorsports

Trophy trucks are pretty bad-ass and so is the BMW X6. So what would that leave any automotive nut to figure? Well, the folks at All German Motorsports let us know the answer, as they pieced together a trophy truck based on the styling of the X6. Nearly every single component on this AGM-built X6 dune truck was custom fabricated, as components to build an X6 Trophy Truck are just not readily available.

In the end, AGM ended up with a pretty sick creation, as this beast weighs a whopping 2,000 lbs less than the typical trophy truck, and even 300 lbs less than the lightest stock X6. Those weight savings are thanks to a Jimco Racing-built frame that is several hundreds of lbs lighter than the average trophy truck and a McGrath Fiberglass-built carbon fiber body, which saves a significant amount of weight over the average trophy truck.

After all of that body and frame work, a BMW V-8 engine was shipped off to Denzo for a complete build up. This custom-built V-8 produces a massive 725 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. All of this combined with a plethora of custom suspension and braking work netted the team one nasty, dune-ready X6.

In its inaugural running, the truck had an axle failure and had to retire early. The following day, this trophy truck clawed from its last place slot to finish in 10th place for the series, which isn’t bad considering it dropped out of the first race. There’s nothing like seeing a luxury SUV cruising through the desert at speeds well in excess of 100 mph and getting some serious airtime at the same time.

2012 BMW Zagato Coupe

At the 2011 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, Zagato teamed up with Aston Martin and to come with a very impressive V12 Zagato supercar. But this year, the Italian design company changed its course and teamed with BMW to provide an equally fabulous Zagato Coupe.

The first collaboration between the two companies was in 1939 with the creation of the first BMWs sporting tailormade Italian metalwork: a coupe based on the BMW 328 for the upcoming race season. Zagato was responsible for designing impressive cars like the BMW 3200 Michelotti Vignale (1959), the BMW 700 (1959), the BMW 3200 CS Bertone (1962), and the BMW M1 (1978). The new Zagato Coupe continues this impressive tradition.

The BMW Zagato Coupe combines design cues from both companies and has been entirely hand built. You will notice that the car’s extremely long bonnet is definitely a BMW element, but the radiator grille and the headlamps have definitely received the Zagato treatment. The car features a very cool Rosso Vivace paint that ranges from something close to black all the way to a brilliant red, depending on the light.

BMW CEO still fighting for the M7

In a recent interview, Ludwig Willisch, CEO of BMW’s North American sales subsidiary, offered a few more details regarding the company’s plans to expand its M line-up. He said that the American market is pressing BMW corporate headquarters in Munich to add an M variant to its new BMW 7-Series, even though BMW has said that the M7 will never happen. Now, this negative response to the production of the M7 may be changing, especially with Willisch’s counterpart in China also asking for the same thing. "I think we will get it," the BMW North America CEO said, but his lips were sealed tight after that, skipping out on offering any further details such as a launch date prediction.

Our hopes of seeing yet another M model gracing the BMW showfloor are high, but Willisch also reiterated that not all BMW models would get an M version. For example, he said that an M variant will never happen for models like the X1 or the X3. Instead, models like this will get a range of accessories through its new M Performance line. These options will improve the models’ general look, but won’t add significant performance upgrades.

2012 BMW 335i Coupe BT92 by Alpha-N Performance

A standard BMW 335i Coupe delivers a total of 300 HP and a BMW M3 Coupe pushes out 420 HP. That’s a pretty big difference between the two, but with the proper tuning package, that difference can be dwindled down to less than nothing. Alpha-N Performance has managed to make the 335i even more powerful than the M3 delivering an impressive 450 HP, while also being 550 lbs lighter than the standard model!

Starting with the exterior, the tuner added a pretty impressive kit with ultra-light material carbon components. It includes a new front bumper and an equally adjustable spoiler, a big rear diffuser, a new trunk lid with protrusive spoiler lip, and a huge, adjustable rear wing. The car sits on a new set of 19" wheels combined with a MAC high-performance braking system.

The same skills were used to tweak the interior, as Alpha-N Performance installed Recaro Pole Position carbon seats with full belt safety harness, a steel cage, and a performance steering wheel. Everything else in the car was ripped out to ensure weight optimization.

Aside from that, the tuner’s main focus was the 335i Coupe’s 3.0 liter six-inline engine. The extra 150 HP was achieved through an Alpha-N engine kit that includes bigger turbo chargers, adaptation of engine electronics, a completely new exhaust system, and an enlarged air-to-air intercooler. The last touch was provided through a reprogrammed ECU.

BMW bringing four models to Frankfurt

BMW is rather busy preparing their lineup for the Frankfurt Motor Show this September. Apparently, they are showing up with no less than four world premiers: the M5, the M3 GTS sedan, the redesigned 1-Series, and the i3. So, if you plan on taking a trip to Germany during that period, you should definitely make a stop in Fankfurt to soak up all of the automotive goodness scheduled to appear.

While the first three models in the line-up are no surprise, the i3 will definitely steal the show. Unfortunately, it will not be a production version, but it will give us a good idea for what to expect in 2013. According to BMW, the i3 will be the world’s first volume-produced vehicle with a passenger cell made from carbon. It will feature an electric motor with an output of about 150 HP and a top speed of 100 mph. It is rumored that the i3 will have an autonomy of 160 miles.

2011 BMW M3 GTRS3 Candy Cane by Vorsteiner

We have seen lots of tuning updates for the BMW M3, but this is without a doubt the sweetest interpretation of the sports car. Tuning firm, Vorsteiner, threw a little sugar on the M3 and calls it the "GTRS3 Candy Cane" because of its pure white exterior combined with striking red elements, including red side mirrors, wheels, bits of the bonnet, and the BMW logo. It’s not every day we see a red BMW logo, but we think the company will forgive the color swapping for this ride.

Adding to the exterior look of the M3 is the new aerodynamic package. Vorsteiner strapped on a carbon fiber wide body conversion, a vented carbon fiber race hood, and a VRS carbon fiber boot lid. The lightweight titanium exhaust system and the new set of red V-309 Forged 5 Spoke wheels size 20" combined with Michelin PS2 Sport Tires 285/25/20 325/25/20 complete the look. A KW V3 EDC Coil over suspension system was also thrown in to absorb the bumps through CandyLand.

As for the engine, Vorsteiner has created two different stages to boost power, but specifics have yet to be revealed. What we do know is that Stage II is ready to pump out up to 620 HP, which is a good 200 HP over the standard version.

Has the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe been revealed?

Last year, at the Beijing Auto Show, BMW unveiled the Gran Coupe concept, an elegant 4-door vehicle that previewed the company’s future Mercedes-Benz CLS competitor. Shortly after, the company announced it would be followed by a production version sometime in the first quarter of 2012. Now, a series of patent images have been revealed that illustrate what the production version may look like. Yes, you guessed it, it’s actually very similar to the concept.

The new BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe will be placed between the current 5 and 7-Series and will keep some of the features that made the concept so attractive at the Beijing Auto Show earlier this year, including the frameless windows and B-pillar. We expect to see the same range of turbocharged six- and eight-cylinder engines, but an ActiveHybrid is also in the works.

If these rumors are correct, we should expect a production version at the beginning of 2012, most likely at the Geneva Motor Show.

BMW M1 Supercar Rumors Reignited...again

Whether they mean to or not, BMW has been torturing the heck out of the auto industry by reigniting and then extinguishing plans for a new M1. A few years ago they came out with the M1 Hommage concept car which many thought would absolutely go to production considering the tremendous feedback it received. After those hopes were dashed with an official announcement from BMW stating that there were no plans for the M1, rumors are now circulating again that a production version of the BMW M1 supercar is back on the table.

According to rumors, the new vehicle is being called the M-One for now because it will be the first vehicle in a new generation of BMWs and will not be based on any existing BMW model. A couple of different sources are going back on forth on what is actually valid information, but from what we can gather, there has only been a few sketches drawn up of the car and if produced, it will be revealed in 2015. Other than that, there are rumors of a new M6 V8 engine or a radical I6, making the new M-One a serious competitor for models like the Mercedes SLS and the Audi R8.

More details floating in the rumor mill suggest that the M-One supercar will be built on a carbon fiber chassis and will feature a slew of technologies already being used on recent concepts. The sketches conjured up apparently reveal a design that is a little bit Vision Connected Drive meets the i8. Since then, BMW has added a roof and a higher windscreen to judge reaction from the industry.

This is all glorious news if it is indeed true, but we wouldn’t advise anyone to hold their breath just yet.

2011 BMW 328 Hommage

Back in the ’30s BMW unveiled the 328 - the most successful and best-looking sports car of the moment. The car’s success was given by its impressive design parameters: systematic lightweight construction, aerodynamic lines, opti-mum engine types and outstanding suspension technology.

And as a celebration of the car’s 75th anniversary BMW will unveil at this year’s Mille Miglia the 328 Hommage, a model that translates the principles and the character of the vehicle of that time into present times and offers a possible interpretation of how the designers of that time, Fritz Fiedler and Rudolf Schleicher, might have built the BMW 328 in the present day using current technology.

"With the BMW 328 Hommage, we wish to pay homage to the passion and inventiveness of the fathers of the BMW 328", explains Karl Bäumer, CEO of BMW Group Classic. "They created an icon, which is consid-ered a milestone in the history of the automobile."

Updated 05/23/2011: After BMW has revealed the first details on the 328 Hommage earlier this week-end, now is time to see the concept in action at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. At the same event the concept won the title of "best of show" in the "Concept Cars and Prototypes" category. Hit the jump for the video.

Video: BMW RR vs. BMW M3

Does a BMW M3 get the lead during a race against the BMW S 1000 RR just because it has an extra two wheels? BMW Motorrad chose to tackle that question with a duel of sorts between Rico’s two-wheeled motorcycle and Nico’s luxury four-wheeled sports car.

Anyone prepared to watch the video should probably know that the 999 cc four cylinder inline engine found in the S 1000 RR and the 4.0 L V8 sitting snug in the BMW M3 were both given a proper tuning upgrade that added a new Akrapovnic exhaust system. This new exhaust provided both machines with a few extra HP. Another thing to know before watching is that each vehicle started the race on the opposite side of the other, hence the title, The Chase.

2011 BMW M3 GTS by G-Power

The BMW M3 GTS is no doubt one of the most impressive M3s ever: lightweight body parts, carbon aerodynamic parts, titanium exhaust, racing suspension, roll cage, and racing bucket seats with six-point seat-belts. However, according to G-Power, the GTS is missing one important thing - ultimate output - and the German tuner is ready to offer it.

In order to increase the car’s output, G-Power is offering a "Sporty Drive" supercharger system, adapted specifically for the BMW M3 GTS. The new system will increase the car’s output from a standard of 450 HP to 635 HP and 464 lb-ft of torque.

The new "Sporty Drive" supercharged system is combined with a lightweight, all-titanium exhaust system that delivers the necessary reduction in exhaust back pressure. The exhaust, developed specifically to suit the requirements of the SK II supercharger system, is equipped with 100 cpsi metal catalytic converters.

With the new output, the G-Power M3 GTS will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds and to 124 mph in 11.9 seconds. Top speed is 200 mph.

If you are interested in obtaining the new "Sporty Drive" system, G-Power is offering it for a price of €23,500 - or about $33,500 at the current exchange rates - not including taxes or installation.

2012 BMW 1-Series M Coupe

BMW has just released some new information about the long awaited 1-Series M Coupe, including engine information, release dates, and the toys it will carry.

Under the hood will be the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with 340 horsepower. That motor will be connected to six-speed manual transmission. There will no automatic option with this vehicle. That motor should be more than enough to haul around the car’s 3,307-pound weight.

The M1 will feature a chassis, braking system, and rear differential similar to the M3. In total, that power and these tweaks have made the M1 faster than the E46 M3 around the Nordschleife.

2013 BMW Z2 Roadster

Rumors about a BMW Z2 Roadster started a very long time ago, but as the time passed, nothing concrete ever materialized on this particular model, leaving us with little to work with in terms of providing good information. Thankfully, that time is over as we have received actual information on the future model.

The BMW Z2 Roadster will be a roadster version of the 1-Series model and will be placed under the Z4, in both performance and price. This new model will target models like the Mazda MX-5 Miata.

The BMW Z2 will be built on the same platform as the next generation 1-Series and will weigh less than 1,000 kg (2,200 lbs). It will be offered with a range of four-cylinders, with the top version going up to 250 HP. There are rumors about a hybrid version, but an electric version is also being taken under consideration.

The first prototypes have already been caught testing on public roads in California, so expect an official debut in late 2013. However, a concept version has already been rumored for a debut in 2012, most likely at the Paris Auto Show. Prices will start at around $30,000.

UPDATE 04/29/2011: Autobild.de has revealed new details on the future Z2. According to the German magazine, the Z2 will be a totally new model placed below the Z4. It will be built on an all-wheel-drive platform, with a RWD one to follow later in 2016. The Z2 won’t debut until early 2014 and it will be offered with a two-liter four-cylinder engine with an output ranging from 163 to 272 HP (model line-up will include: 16i, 20i and 28i). The Z2 will be considerably cheaper than the Z4.

BMW Vision EfficientDynamics shows up on set of Mission: Impossible 4

The fourth installment of the Mission Impossible franchise is right smack in the middle of shooting and we’re already hearing about some of the cars that are going to have facetime with Mr. Tom Cruise for the movie.

A few months ago, we reported on rumors that the all-new BMW 6-Series was going to be a part of MI4: The Ghost Protocol. Well, now it looks like things are about to get a lot more interesting. The latest buzz around the set is that another ’new’ member of the BMW family was spotted during its on-location shoot in Mumbai, India and that vehicle is BMW’s galactically awesome Vision EfficientDynamics concept.

There’s no word yet on what kind of role - if it has any - the Vision EfficientDynamics concept will have in the movie, but seeing this photo makes you hope and pray that the BMW concept car will have something - a whole lot of somethings, in fact - special in store for all of us.

2014 BMW X7

When it comes to the possibility of a BMW X7, we’ve heard all kinds of things. First, there were rumors saying it would be produced and then the rumors were pulled back saying that plans for the X7 had been canceled. Now, it has turned into a game of tennis with the plans switching back to the production side yet again. That’s right, the SUV is back on track, but only because the Chinese market is asking for it.

This may seem like it came out of nowhere, and it has. Wall Street Journal recently published an article on the upcoming world’s largest economic summit in Seoul. The main topic of this summit is “global rebalancing,” but amidst all of the mumbo jumbo is a couple of paragraphs that lead us to believe that BMW is rethinking its decision to pull the BMW X7 out.

"So, BMW is downshifting. While it makes one big sedan especially for the Chinese market, it isn’t ramping up production enough to fill all its Chinese orders. It wants to make sure it has sufficient supply for the U.S. and Germany."

"The company is also counting on the U.S. to rebound more quickly than doom-and-gloomers think, making rebalancing less necessary than the leaders gathered in Seoul believe. It is even reconsidering its decision to cancel a new large SUV, which was meant mainly for U.S. buyers."

Is the X7 back on? We think so. All we need to find out now is if BMW will be relying more on the growing Chinese market as stated in the report, or if the plans for the X7 to be sold in America will stand.
