2016 Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo

After a few cryptic teaser shots of wings, engine covers and some objects we weren’t quite sure about

has unveiled its contribution to the Gran Turismo

6 Vision GT project. The Bugatti Vision GT is the virtual expression of how a real quasi-racing

Bugatti could look. It also provides us with a preview of Bugatti’s nextVeyron

replacement, working-titled 2018 Bugatti Chiron

As outrageous as it looks, the Bugatti Vision GT isn’t quite as extreme as some other cars in the Vision GT garage — the 2,590-horsepower 2015 SRT Tomahawk Vision Gran Turismo

for instance — but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Bugatti designers and engineers wanted keep things in the realm of what’s possible now. That said, Bugattis by their very nature are extreme cars. “We wanted to create a project as realistic as possible for our fans and put a real Bugatti in the virtual world of the PlayStation video game franchise,” explained head Bugatti designer Frank Heyl. “Every design characteristic is defined by its function. Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo is the perfect symbiosis of engineering and aesthetics.”

If you’re not familiar with it, the Vision Gran Turismo project allows designers and engineers from real-world car companies to create cars for the virtual world without the limitations created by regulations, budgets, and in some cases, even reality. The results are then uploaded to Gran Turismo 6 on PlayStation 3

, where they can be enjoyed by gamers everywhere. Several other car companies have already made contributions, and it’s always fascinating to see what they come up with. It also functions as a preview of what might be next for some of these companies.

In addition to its digital form, Bugatti will also reveal a full-size show car

at the 2015Frankfurt International Motor Show

, at which point it will simultaneously be added to Gran Turismo 6. But until then, let’s take a closer look at the Bugatti Vision GT.

Bugatti Lucifer Design Study

How do you succeed something that looks to be imminently irreplaceable?

That’s a question that everyone at Bugatti will be wondering when the time comes for the Bugatti Veyron to say farewell to all of us and give way to its successor. But if they are having some trouble thinking of a design for the Veyron successor, London-based designer Timur Bozca has a few ideas, including an odd choice of a name.

Bozca, an industrial designer from Coventry University of Automotive & Transport Design, understood that designing the supercar that would ultimately replace the iconic Veyron was easier said than done. So he went about working on a car that featured plenty of hard lines coupled with a more streamlined profile than the Veyron. Add a new front grille, a more aggressive fascia profile, and a touch of deep red and black, and you have Bozca’s work of art: the freakishly named Bugatti Lucifer.

Odd choice for a name notwithstanding, Bozca gave the Lucifer a powertrain that would make the Veyron proud: an 8.0-liter W16 engine that produces 1,001 horsepower and 890 lb/ft of torque mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with a top speed of somewhere in the neighborhood of 220 mph.

While we don’t necessarily agree with the name-of-choice, we have to give Timur Bozca some props for the craftily-designed Veyron successor because that is one mean-looking SOB.

Bugatti Veyron Sang Bleu Yacht Concept by Ben Walsh

Fresh off the concept design of the Audi Trimaran comes another superfluous yacht concept that completely blew our minds. Courtesy of Ben Walsh, a graduate of the Royal College of Art and the man responsible for the interior of the Cadillac Converj concept, is this Bugatti Veyron-inspired superyacht concept design. Walsh, now a part of the interior design team of PSA Peugeot Citroen, designed his superyacht concept by taking cues from an exclusive version of the Bugatti Veyron: the Sang Bleu Edition.

A ton of props definitely goes to Ben Walsh for the stunning design of the concept yacht. The carbon fiber and aluminum construction of the boat and the two-tone finish that’s reminiscent of the Veyron Sang Bleu gives this futuristic hydroride a classy, sporty, and luxurious look, sort of like the equivalent of driving a Veyron Sang Bleu on asphalt. Except with this yacht concept, you’re laying waste to the waters of the world.

Unfortunately, there’s very little chance of seeing this concept yacht come to life. Nonetheless, it’s still a pretty awesome addition to our wish list.

2011 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport

Well, it seems that Bugatti has decided to bring out the new Veyron 16.4 Super Sport long before its official debut at the Pebble Beach Concours weekend in mid-August. And not only did they unveil official details on it, but the supercar has already entered the Guinness Book of Records with an average top speed of 431 km/h (267 mph). The new model will go into production this fall, and the first five units will be sold as limited "World Record Editions." They will feature a special black exposed carbon and orange finish, and yes, they are already sold out!

The new Veyron 16.4 Super Sport comes with four enlarged turbochargers and bigger intercoolers that have been used to boost the power of the 16-cylinder engine to a total of 1200 HP, the chassis has been extensively redesigned to maintain safety at extreme speeds – thanks to a slightly raised main-spring travel, stronger stabilizers, and new shock absorbers with a complex architecture originally developed for racing cars. This gives noticeably more precise control of the wheels and the car as a whole. With lateral acceleration of up to 1.4 G and improved interaction between the tires and the intelligent all-wheel drive system, the Super Sport offers perfect handling and even more powerful acceleration of 1,500 NM on corner exits.

On the exterior the car gets expanded and reshaped front air intakes, a revised back with double diffuser, and a centrally arranged exhaust system.

On a beautiful sunny day at 25 degrees the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport achieved a new landspeed world record for production cars, on the proving grounds of the Volkswagen Group at Ehra-Lessien (nearby its headquarters at Wolfsburg). In the presence of the German Technical Inspection Agency (TÜV) and a representative of Guinness Book of Records the Super Sport achieved an average top speed of 431 km/h.

Saturday, 2 pm – Bugatti’s Pilote Officiel Pierre Henri Raphanel puts his helmet and gloves on, pulls the safety belts tight whilst the engineers check the car a very last time: tyre pressure, temperature, all systems go. Then the orange black Super Sport crosses the light barrier, from now on the time will be taken, within one hour the car has to drive from South to North and then in the opposite direction. No one but the driver is allowed to touch the car during this time. The tension rises. A few minutes later we can hear from the left side the sound of a starting jumbo jet coming closer towards us. First we perceive the headlights of the Veyron, then we can recognize the shape of the car, a loud wooosh…. and Raphanel dashes in top speed past us. The GPS-tachometer stops at 427, 933 km/h. Now the same procedure from the opposite direction. This time the car reaches 434, 211 km/h. As average top speed the representatives of the “TÜV”and Guinness generate a value of 431, 072 km/h (268 mph). This even hit Bugatti’s engineering team by surprise.

“We took it that we would reach an average value of 425 km/h,” explains Bugatti’s chief engineer Dr. Wolfgang Schreiber, “but the conditions today were perfect and allowed even more.”

The climax of the Veyron series: the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport

Had a model been especially popular or highly successful in races, Ettore Bugatti’s customers often pushed the master to tease out of the engine a few horsepower more for their future car. Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. had been in a similar situation when their existing customers asked the company to not only design their second model optically differently but to also create a version with a sportier and more extreme driving experience. The result is a car with a uniquely high performance of 1,200-hp (882 kW) offering experienced drivers a whole new dimension of excitement, with a maximum torque of 1,500 Newton metres and a limited top speed of 415 km/h (to protect the tyres) but, the technique of the Super Sport is identical to the record car. The first five Super Sports to come off the production line will constitute a special series of their own, with the same configuration as the landspeed record car.

The Super Sport is a consequent of the further development of the classic exclusive 1,001-hp Bugatti Veyron 16.4, launched in 2005. This model offers a stunning set of specifications, such as the twin clutch gearbox with seven speeds, the extraordinarily precise driving performance in bends and excellent stability when braking and accelerating.

Continuous work in extreme performance ranges lead to constantly new conclusions, which enabled the engineers at Bugatti to develop the Veyron into a direction in which the driver can reach new dimensions. Every modification is designed to produce an even more powerful car for an agile ride. Four enlarged turbochargers and bigger intercoolers have been used to boost the power of the 16-cylinder engine, and the chassis has been extensively redesigned to maintain safety at extreme speed – thanks to slightly raised main-spring travel, stronger stabilisers, and new shock absorbers with a complex architecture originally developed for racing cars. The body has been fine-tuned to improve aerodynamic efficiency and maintain perfect balance in every situation, while the new fibre structure of the all-carbon monocoque ensures maximum torsion rigidity and passive safety – at reduced weight. The skin is made entirely of carbon-fibre composites, and the new Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport is available in 100 per-cent clearlacquered exposed carbon on request.

Dynamic exterior

Every detail of this car, and not just its use of advanced motorsport technology, harks back to the pioneering spirit of company founder Ettore Bugatti. This brilliant designer came from a family of artists, and his philosophy was always to combine mechanical perfection and exterior beauty. This ethos remains alive and well at the company, and the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport is wholly unmistakeable, with every external modification serving to coax greater performance from the car. The Super Sport’s flat, elongated silhouette is immediately recognisable. The 16-cylinder engine gets its air from two NACA ducts integrated into the roof, rather than from scoops above the engine. The front air intakes have been expanded and reshaped, with the lower one extending elegantly around the sides to the wheel arch. The revised back looks sportier due to the double diffuser and a centrally arranged exhaust system.

Bugatti has a tradition of making super-sport versions of successful models, usually with racing chassis and supercharged engines. These cars were considered as true racing machines for diehard Bugatti devotees. The most successful were the type 55 and type 57S; only around forty of each were built.

Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. has sold 260 Veyrons and 35 Grand Sports by now, of which 249 Veyrons and 22 Grand Sports had been delivered. The Super Sport will begin production this autumn at Molsheim along with the Veyron and the Grand Sport. The first five cars – known as the World Record Edition – are in a special black exposed carbon and orange finish and have already been sold.

The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport will appear for the first time in public in California at the Pebble Beach Concours weekend in mid-August and will be featured at The Quail, Monterey Historic Races at Laguna Seca and on the concept lawn of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

2013 Bugatti 16C Galibier

All we’ve heard about the Bugatti Galibier so far has been concept details and speculation, but things are about to turn around for all the fans wishing the company would take the next big step. Volkswagen has offered Bugatti the backing they need for a 16C Galibier sedan.

Apparently, Wolfgang Duerheimer, the man who recently took over as head of Bugatti and Bentley, was the main proponent behind pushing Volkswagen to give them a break. The Galibier, a 1000 HP sedan, was first shown as a concept in 2010 and when put into production, will cost about $1.4 million. It will use a 16-cylinder engine that can run on both biofuel and gasoline, and will bring back the dual-clutch gearbox. Production will require facilities in Molsheim, France, to be refitted, which may push back deliveries until 2013 or 2014.

The official name for the production model hasn’t been provided yet, but Bugatti’s decision to offer a production version sedan should come as no surprise considering Lamborghini has already confirmed the production version of the Estoque and Ferrari has brought out the FF. These competitors by no means come close to the power behind the Bugatti, but they do illustrate the luxury automakers that are taking advantage of the upswing the economy is making by expanding their lineups.

2009 Bugatti Veyron F1

A while ago Top Speed reported about what is worth to be #1 when Saeed Abdul Ghafour Khouri shelled out $14.3 Million for the right to bear the a very exclusive number plate. Now the oil rich nations of the middle east have become a mecca for over the top indulgence and excess, especially when it comes to their automobiles, so the exclusivity of being #1 is a very esteemed honor.

Now the Bugatti Veyron is by its nature a very expensive car, so you can only imagine what it is worth when wearing an equally unique F1 number plate. It turns out that the F1 tag is almost as good as being number one. So you can only imagine the crowds that the very rare and exotic F1 Veyron would attract. That is exactly what the promoters of the upcoming MPH Show at London’s Earls Court from November 5th through the 8th. The very rare Bugatti’s owner, Afzal Kahn, was kind enough to offer up one of his prized possessions for the display. So if you happen to be in the area, then you can stop by to not only see the F1 Bugatti Veyron, but a few other high speed machines like the Ferrari FXX, Lamborghini GT600, Pagani Zonda R and the ultra exotic GT by Citroen as well.

2010 Bugatti Veyron "Nocturne"

Is not a secret anymore that Dubai is a haven for super cars. So it should come as no surprise that the exotic French automaker Bugatti has decided to unveil three special edition Veyrons in honor of the importance of the Middle East market. The first of the Dubai Auto Show specials is the "Nocturne" and will be limited to only five units priced at around $2.4 Million exclusively for the Middle East Market.

The Veyron "Nocturne" is distinguished from ordinary Veyron’s with its galvanized side windows that continues the polished aluminum line that starts at the front of the vehicle and finishes with the wide rear arches and creates a stark contrast with the uniblack side and roof panels. Aside from the Veyron’s unique color scheme, the "Nocturne" is also adorned with a few other high end materials like special polished rims, a dark magnesium dash and a galvanized Platinum center console to complete the special edition Veyron’s unique interior feel.

2010 Bugatti Veyron "Sang d’Argent"

If you are a fan of the Pur Sang Veyron then you will like the second special edition Bugatti super car that was unveiled in Dubai. The Veyron "Sang d’Argent" will be a one of a kind Bugatti and will be priced at $2.1 Million.

The special edition Veyron "Sang d’Argent" is inspired by the two tone finish of the Centenary Villa d’Este cars and similarly to the highly polished Pur Sang edition, the d’Argent model combines a subtle silver metallic strip of paint that runs the length of the car and breaks up the lustrous body panels up front including the wide front fenders and door panels. Bugatti has wrapped the inside of the unique Veyron with a Havanna interior with a quilted pattern on seats and darker saddle leather covering every other surface further personalizing the exclusivity of this very special Bugatti.

2010 Bugatti Veyron Royal Dark Blue

It’s been quite some time since Bugatti has unveiled any other car at these motor shows that isn’t a Veyron, opting instead to keep churning out special editions of their $2 million-dollar ride. While the variety leaves a lot to be desired, we don’t really have a problem with it because it’s, well, the Veyron.

So when they revealed today two special edition Veyron Grand Sport models at the Geneva Motor Show, none of us are complaining. The first of these two one-off Veyron Grand Sport models is the Royal Dark Blue, which if you’re curious to know, already has an owner who paid an impressive 1.75 million euros for the supercar.

The Royal Dark Blue Veyron Grand Sport features a carbon fiber made bonnet with a monocoque and rear section that’s painted in Royal Dark Blue, the same color as the air intakes and most of the grilles with the exception of the highly polished radiator grille. The central part of the car is painted in Arctic White.

On the interior, the dashboard, center console, seats and interior trim panels are all made of dark blue Indigo Leather, while the steering wheel, seats, center console and gearshift knob are painted in white.

2010 Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Grey Carbon

Bugatti’s second special-edition offering at the Geneva Motor Show is the Veyron Grand Sport Grey Carbon. Similar to the Royal Dark Blue, this one-off Veyron Grand Sport has already been sold for 1.65 million euros.

Even if you can’t get a piece of this Veyron - or the Royal Dark Blue, for that matter - you can actually hop over to Bugatti’s booth at the auto show and play a little customization game where you can tinker with your own Veyron according to your tastes, courtesy of Bugatti’s "Customisation lounge".

For the Grand Sport Grey Carbon, the upper section of the body – including the doors and side panels – is made of dark gray carbon fiber while the bottom part of the car is finished in polished aluminum.

The interior of this one-off supercar is the same as the Royal Dark Blue, with the exception of the car’s silver color not contrasting as much to the white stitching as its blue counterpart, thereby giving it a more regal and luxurious feel.

2010 Bugatti 16 C Galibier

This past March at the Geneva Motor Show, the Swedish super car company Keonigsegg revealed the NLV Quant electric sedan. Well now it is the exotic Italian coachbuilder Bugatti’s turn, and Ettore’s original brand has done quite an impressive job on the all new Bugatti 16 C Galibier concept that was unveiled this past weekend in Molsheim. According to the automaker the upcoming super car will become "the most exclusive, elegant, and powerful four door automobile in the world."

The Galibier’s design is based on the Bugatti Type 35, a model that also inspired the 1001 HP Bugatti Veyron super car. The 16 C concept features the traditional Bugatti radiator complimented by big round LED lit headlamps and the clamshell running the length of the vehicle which became synonymous with the brand identity under Jean Bugatti in the Type 57.

Under the bonnet, the 16 C concept can stand up to the almighty Veyron, becasue Bugatti has placed a 8.0 Liter 16 cylinder engine boosted with a two stage supercharging system, that features an ethanol mode. The Galiber was designed with smooth lines that will allow it to slipstream past the competition should it ever go into production. The concept also features a four wheel drive, a purpose built performance suspension and very exotic ceramic brakes to ensure that the 16 C Galiber can handle the speeds the pair of blowers up front are going to generate.

The interior of the 16 C Galiber concept reflects the pure and simple design of the exterior, because after all there is something beautiful about being basic. The dash been reduced to include only the essential. Two centrally located dials keep even the rear passengers up to speed about the details of their experience. There is even an Aston Martin rivaling timepiece that has been integrated into the super car concept. Parmigiani, the Swiss maker of fine watches, created the removable Reverso Tourbillon clock for the Galibier, which may be worn on the wrist thanks to a cleverly designed leather strap.

2010 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 by MANSORY

With hand-crafted carbon fiber pieces and an LED “V” in the front bumper, the Bugatti Veyron LINEA Vincerò by Mansory was one sweet looking ride. Its tremendous power bursting with 1109hp wasn’t anything to frown upon either. Now, however, the LINEA Vincerò has just gotten a more impressive younger brother and this sibling is packing some serious style.

Following in the Bugatti Veyron LINEA Vincerò’s footsteps is the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 LINEA Vincerò d’Oro, which adds a special golden touch to the vehicle’s styling. It starts off with a carbon fabric with inbuilt copper thread and moves throughout the car with “turbine” design alloy wheels, a curved grill featuring the “Vincerò-V”, door handles, rear view mirror caps, and the fuel tank cap all dressed in a golden glow. Adding to the shimmering state of the Bugatti are gold headlight washer nozzle covers, gold borders around the daytime running LEDs, and gold decorative features on the roof.
