2016 Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe Edition 1

For a few years now Mercedes has been rolling out Edition 1 versions for most of its new models, allowing customers to purchase special-edition cars with extra features inside and out. Updates often included special paints from the Desgino palette, custom wheels, two-tone leather schemes, microfiber inserts, and even LED headlamps with Swarovski crystals, like seen on the2015 Mercedes-AMG S63 Coupe . With the awesome2016 Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe launched earlier in 2015, Mercedes has now unveiled yet another Edition 1 model.
The new two-door was announced alongside the 2016 Mercedes-AMG C63 DTM , a new race car the Germans will use in the 2016 DTM championship. The fact that both the DTM and the Edition 1 were launched at the same time is no coincidence, as the road car borrows certain elements from its racing sibling. This makes the AMG C63 Coupe Edition 1 a bit more special than other Edition 1 Mercs, but you’ll have to keep reading to find out more about that.

To set the Edition 1 apart from the standard AMG C63 Coupe, Mercedes wrapped it in an exclusive livery and added a number of aerodynamic upgrades. Two versions are available.
The body is finished in a Magno Selenite Grey matt paint complemented by yellow stripes on the engine hood, roof, trunk, and above the side skirts.
The first variant, available only with the range-topping S model, features an exterior paint scheme borrowed from the DTM race car . The body is finished in a Magno Selenite Grey matt paint complemented by yellow stripes on the engine hood, roof, trunk, and above the side skirts.
The same shade of yellow can be found on the matt-black Performance wheels, which come in a five, double-spoke design. The rollers are wrapped in custom sports tires which Mercedes claims will offer a "tangibly enhanced level of traction on dry roads." The coupe is also equipped with high-performance ceramic brakes.
The second version of the Edition 1 is a bit more restrained. The stripes are rendered in Graphite Grey on this model, while the special tires and the ceramic brakes are optional. Unlike the first variant, this one can be had in all exterior paints available for the AMG C63 Coupe.
Updates don’t stop here though. Both versions feature the AMG Aerodynamics Package, which adds a specific front splitter, side skirts, and rear diffuser, all finished in high-gloss black. Additionally, customers can opt for the AMG Night Package, which includes chrome-plated tailpipes, Silver Chrome radiator grille, high-gloss black side sill inserts, high-gloss black mirror caps, and heat-insulating, dark tinted glass from the B-pillar backward.

Interior

The interior also received its fair share of exclusive features, including a pair of AMG Performance seats upholstered in Nappa leather and adorned by yellow contrast stitching. More yellow details can be found on the door panels, arms rests, the steering wheel, the instrument cluster, and the floor mats. The flat-bottom Performance steering wheel is wrapped in Dinamica microfiber, while its middle section trim is finished in matt-carbon.

Drivetrain

Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe Edition 1
Not surprisingly, motivation comes from the same 4.0-liter V-8 found in the standard model. The twin-turbocharged unit is available in the same two versions, with the "base" model rated at 469 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque and the S model powered by 503 horses and 516 pound-feet of twist. Charging from 0 to 60 mph takes 3.9 seconds in the "base" model and 3.8 seconds in the S version. Top speed is electronically limited at 155 and 180 mph, respectively. Both versions of the Edition 1 are equipped with the AMG Speedshift, seven-speed automatic transmission, which features four modes: "Comfort," "Individual," "Sport +," and "Race".

Safety

The Edition 1 comes with the same safety features as the regular model. Standard tech includes front side airbags, front pelvic airbags, a driver knee airbag, and full-length side curtain airbags, while the options list features Collision Prevention Assist Plus and PreSafe, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, and rear cross-traffic alert.

Prices

There’s no pricing information for the Edition 1 as of this writing, but expect it to cost more than the regular AMG C63 Coupe, which is likely to retail from anywhere between $65,000 and $70,000.

Conclusion

Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe Edition 1
It’s not uncommon for Edition 1 models to feature numerous exclusive features inside and out, but the AMG C63 Coupe can brag about a lot more extras than previous versions. The most striking feature is arguably the DTM-inspired livery of the S model, which highlights the coupe’s proximity to motorsport. It’s more of a "DTM Edition" rather than an Edition 1, but monikers aren’t that important here. What matters is that this gorgeous, beefed-up coupe can be had with a package that surpasses anything BMW and Audi can offer right now.

Press Release

Mercedes-AMG is bringing the C 63 Coupé Edition 1 special model to the starting line. The exclusive colour combination in designo Magno Selenite Grey with yellow film coating and black wheels with yellow painted rim flanges reflects the graphic design of the Frankfurt International Motor Show launch version of the Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM racing coupé which will be used in the DTM next year. The special model is equipped with Performance seats and an aerodynamics package, highlighting its proximity to motorsport.
Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe Edition 1
The new Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupé and C 63 S Coupé are also available as "Edition 1" special models from market launch. The extraordinary combination of exclusive design and equipment characteristics is inspired by the optical appearance of future Mercedes-AMG racing coupés which will compete in the popular DTM series in 2016.
Two exterior designs address different customer wishes. The first variant, available exclusively for the S-Model is particularly striking: The colour scheme in designo Magno Selenite Grey matt paint with yellow film coating borrows the look of the Frankfurt International Motor Show launch version of the 2016 C 63 DTM and thus highlights its proximity to motorsport. Yellow sport stripes adorn the engine bonnet, roof, boot lid as well as the side lines above the rocker panels.
With yellow painted rim flanges, the extremely light, matt black Performance forged wheels in 5 double-spoke design also set a distinctive accent. Size 9.0J x 19 with 255/35 R 19 tyres are used at the front, 10.5J x 20 with 285/30 R 20 tyres at the rear. The custom sports tyres offer a tangibly enhanced level of traction on dry roads. The C 63 S Coupé Edition 1 is equipped with ceramic high-performance compound brake system offering the ultimate deceleration values and lower unsprung mass, thus increasing performance on the racetrack.
Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe Edition 1
The exterior of the second Edition 1 variant is more restrained. The sport stripes are rendered in graphite grey matt and the rim flanges of the matt black forged wheels have a high-sheen cross-spoke design. Sport tyres and the ceramic high-performance compound brake system are available as an option for this variant. In addition, all exterior paints are available for this variant.
In both variants, the AMG Aerodynamics Package in high-gloss black enhances the racing-inspired appearance. The additional large front spoiler, specific side skirts, lateral airflow breakaway edges in the rear apron, the specific rear diffuser and the specific airflow break-away edge on the boot lid not only reduce the lift but also sharpen the optical impression.
The AMG Night Package with chrome-plated tailpipe trim is also in the series-production version of the Edition 1. The following features are included:
Radiator grille with double plate in silver chrome
A-wing of the front apron and A-wing trim strip in high-gloss black
Side sill panel inserts in high-gloss black
Waistline trim strip and window frame in high-gloss black
Rear apron trim strip in high-gloss black
Exterior mirror housing in high-gloss black
Heat-insulating, dark tinted glass from the B-pillar backwards
Exhaust system with two chrome-plated twin tailpipe tips

The genuine racing feel continues in the interior. The AMG Performance seats are upholstered in Nappa leather, including the colour yellow in the contrast stitching of the specific diamond pattern. In addition, the more sharply-contoured seat shape enhances lateral support, particularly in curves taken at high speed. Yellow contrast stitching is also found in the door centre panels, arm rests, the steering wheel rim as well as the beltline. Further yellow accents adorn the instrument cluster, the AMG-specific analogue in IWC design and the floor mats. With the Performance steering wheel of DINAMICA microfibre featuring a flattened bottom, the driver always has the C 63 Coupé securely under control. The middle section trim in matt carbon colour also gives the unmistakable signal of what the Edition 1 is about: Uncompromising dynamics at the highest level.
The technical set-up is ideal: strikingly flared front and rear wheel arches, an increased track width and larger wheels give the new C 63 Coupé a muscular look while at the same time providing a basis for the highly agile longitudinal and lateral dynamics. The AMG 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine with 350 kW (476 hp) or 375 kW (510 hp) guarantees spectacular driving performance, supported by the sophisticated AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers, the specific AMG DYNAMIC SELECT transmission modes, the rear-axle limited-slip differential or the dynamic engine mounts in the C 63 S Coupé.
