2016 Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4 Roadster

Launched for the 2015 model year as a successor to the very popular Gallardo, the 2015 Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4 has already received a couple of race-ready versions: the 2015 Lamborghini Huracan LP620-2 Super Trofeo and the 2015 Lamborghini Huracan GT3. But to be able to replace the Gallardo completely, the Huracan needs to spawn even more iterations, including a Roadster and a lighter, Superleggera model. While the Superleggera has already been spotted testing, there’s still no sign of the Roadster. However, word has it theconvertible Huracan is less than a year away.
With the 2015 McLaren 650S Spider already on the street and with Ferrari having just unveiled the 2016 Ferrari 488 Spider as a successor to the iconic 2012 Ferrari 458 Spider, Lamborghini has no choice but to bring its very own drop-top to the party.
The fact that the Huracan Spider has yet to arrive is far from surprising though; the Gallardo needed about three years to receive an open-top version. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait that long for the Huracan Roadster, which is reportedly slated to arrive in the first quarter of 2016, likely at the Geneva Motor Show.
But until that happens, let’s have a closer look at what we already know about Huracán LP 610-4 Roadster in my speculative review below.
Updated 09/09/2015: The new Huracan Spyder (which we now know it will be called) will be unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show on September 15, 12:20 PM CET.

Exterior

Based on previous Roadster models, the future Huracan Roadster will look pretty much identical to the coupe, except for the roof of course. I expect this to be identical to the2013 Lamborghini Aventador Roadster’s, meaning the Huracan will get a two-piece roof made entirely from carbon fiber that can be stored in the luggage compartment. Unlike the coupe , the Huracan Roadster will also get a redesigned upper rear section for better support of the new, removable roof. Finally, the drop-top design should also feature a new engine hood in the form of a large piece of sheet metal with heat extractors.
Other than that, the supercar will feature all the styling cues of the Huracan, which is significantly more aggressive than the Gallardo, in part due to the many design elements borrowed from the larger Aventador.

Interior

Note: Huracan coupe interior shown.
When it comes to V-10-powered supercars, there’s nothing like driving them with the top down. The Huracan Roadster will allow you to do just that and enjoy one of the industry’s most entertaining V-10 powerplants. Infinite headroom and access to a gorgeous soundtrack aside, the Roadster will bring you the same interior design and features as the standard model.
Highlights include a redesigned dashboard and center console with new knobs and switches, a 12.3-inch TFT display with all the necessary info, and large amounts of carbon fiber, high-quality leather, and Alcantara.

Drivetrain

Arguably the most exciting feature of the Huracan Roadster will be the 5.2-liter V-10 under the hood. Shared with both the Huracan coupe and the 2016 Audi R8 , the powerplant produces 610 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque that travels to all four wheels through a seven-speed, dual-clutch gearbox. You’ll be able to choose between three driving modes — Strada, Sport, and Corsa — which impact how the gearbox, suspension, steering, exhaust and stability control function.
Charging to 62 mph in the Huracan Roadster will likely take about 3.3 seconds, while 124 mph will come in 10. Top speed should exceed 200 mph. Despite these impressive performance figures, the Huracan Roadster should be able to return up to 18 mpg combined.

Prices

Although Lamborghini is still mum on the details, the Huracan Roadster is expected to break cover at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. Expect pricing to start from around $250,000.

Conclusion

Lamborghini has been offering roadsters on a regular basis since the Diablo, and it’s now the Huracan’s turn to lose its top. Sure, Lambo has yet to confirm such a model is underway, but the Italians would be crazy not to create one, given most supercars in this niche have roadster versions.
LOVE IT
  • Infinite headroom
  • Slightly more affordable than its Ferrari and McLaren rivals
LEAVE IT
  • Slightly slower than the standard Huracan due to extra weight
  • Slower than its primary competitors
