2008 - 2010 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR

Dodge unveiled the fourth generation Viper SRT10 ACR a the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2007, bringing what would essentially be the last model presented before a whole new breed of Viper comes out in 2012. The Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR is a 600 hp street-legal Viper engineered to dominate on the race track and also provide for an exciting trip back home. The Viper went on sale in the second quarter of 2008 at a price of no less than $100,000.
"With the all-new 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR, SRT has taken the ultimate American sports car and injected it with an extra dose of racing DNA," said Mike Accavitti, Director - Dodge Brand and SRT Global Marketing and Communications, Chrysler LLC. "With the Viper SRT10 as the starting point, SRT engineered a combination of reduced weight, race-tuned suspension and aerodynamic improvements to create the ultimate Viper for the street and track."
UPDATE 04/15/2011: Kuno Wittmer piloted a street legal 2010 Dodge Viper ACR to a record lap of 1:59.995 at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, on Monday, April 11, 2011, breaking the 2-minute mark for the first time in a production car on the 3.048-mile Outer Course configuration. The previous record was held by a Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 with a time of 2:03.86. Check out the video by clicking on the picture above!
UPDATE 05/05/2011: Now that about a month has past since the Viper killed the record lap time of the Corvette ZR1, Viper Headquarters has churned up a video that features an interview with Kuno Wittmer and an in-car camera view of the record breaking lap.

Exterior

The 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR has to be functional on and off the track so there was great care taken in providing the essential elements needed to make this happen. The SRT10 ACR features a variable geometry "fanged" front splitter, an adjustable rear wing sculpted by CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and optimized front dive planes. The front splitter includes three removable rub strips that provide protection and wear resistance, while the stainless steel tension cables provide enough support to absorb the energy from minor upward deflections.
In term of aerodynamics, the street-legal racer will make good use of the high-performance autoclaved carbon-fiber to reduce weight. The splitter and dive planes feature a clear-coated carbon-fiber weave on all Viper SRT10 ACR models.
The 2008 Viper SRT10 ACR features a signature two-tone paint scheme with a black center section. There is an optional driver’s stripe available which features a sewn leather accent on the steering wheel. If you don’t fancy two-tone paint, then there is also a monotone paint scheme that features a body-color rear wing and dual painted Viper stripes. The 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR is available in five colors: Viper Red, Viper Black, Viper Violet, Viper Bright Blue Metallic, and Viper Very Orange.
Lightweight filler panels replace the front fog lamps and gloss black lightweight forged aluminum Sidewinder wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup DOT-approved (street-legal) race tires finish off the exterior of the Viper.

Interior

Inside the SRT10 ACR can be turned into a pure racer with an optional "Hard Core" package that strips the car of its audio system, underhood silencer pad, trunk carpet and tire inflator to reduce weight. The radio is replaced by a lightweight cover that can be configured to mount the included lap timer. The door speakers are replaced by lightweight carbon-fiber panels. These eliminations allow the Viper to be an additional 40 lbs. lighter, putting the SRT10 ACR model at 80lbs. lighter total for real street-legal race-ready performance (SRT10 ACR was already 40lbs lighter than standard model).

Engine

The 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR is powered by the Viper SRT10’s new 8.4-liter aluminum V-10 engine that produces a stimulating 600 horsepower and 560 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine comes with cylinder heads equipped with Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC)-shaped combustion chambers, large valves, and Variable Valve Timing (VVT), which electronically adjusts when the exhaust valves are open and closed according to engine speed and load.
This engine is mated to a Tremec T56 six-speed manual transmission known as the TR6060. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a GKN ViscoLok speed-sensing limited-slip differential.
The 2009 SRT10 ACR was put through its paces at the Nurburgring and clocked in a record time of 7:22.1. Kuno Wittmer piloted a street legal 2010 Dodge Viper ACR to a record lap of 1:59.995 at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, on Monday, April 11, breaking the 2-minute mark for the first time in a production car on the 3.048-mile Outer Course configuration.

Suspension and Brakes

Under the hood the SRT10 ACR features a suspension that includes adjustable coil-over racing dampers from KW Suspensions and two way adjustable shocks. The dampers and forks are made from solid aluminum billet and are optimized for increased weight reduction and performance. Stopping power for the Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR comes from StopTech two-piece, slotted lightweight rotors combine with the Viper SRT10’s Brembo calipers. This setup reduces rotating inertia and unsprung mass, improves brake cooling, and significantly reduces fade even under extreme conditions. The 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR stops from 60 mph in less than 100 feet.
